How to mess up in an interview
Imagine you’re a recruiter.
You work at a company. They ask you to find good people.
You start meeting them.
Someone comes in:
He’s confident.
He answers your questions,
some well, some not...
But he doesn’t mind. He’s not embarrassed. He just keeps going.
It almost feels like he doesn’t even want the job.
Like he doesn’t need it.
He looks confident.
You finish with him, and someone else comes in.
He laughs nervously, a lot.
He answers, but not very sure.
He tries hard, maybe too hard.
He says more than you asked.
He talks a lot about his life,
even when you don’t ask.
Every time you ask, he tells you everything.
When he messes up, he tries to explain (the first person didn’t).
He answered well the smae questions.
But who would you choose?
I think it’s clear, right?
It’s right in front of you!
Here’s the golden rule:
Don't act like you need it.
On the other hand, both of them had to answer things correctly.
They both took a test.
Doing things right was key.
Imagine they can’t code well…
It’s a senior role,
and they don’t know how to organize things or follow good practices.
They’re out.
Right away.
No question.
